Product Info
On Arrival
Please ensure you dispose of any packaging appropriately and safely. Your Little Finch play mat will arrive rolled, held neatly with Velcro straps, and packaged in a cardboard box. Hold onto those Velcro straps! They may come in handy if you wish to store or transport your mat in the future.
Due to the nature of its memory foam core, your mat will take some time to relax into its intended shape. Simply unravel and lay flat in the opposite direction for the first 72 hours and watch it take form! Alternatively, re-roll your play mat in the opposite direction and fasten with the velcro straps for 24 hours, that is if you can resist not using it straight away!
Although you will not notice any nasty smell on arrival, we do recommend giving your mat a gentle wipe with warm water before its first use. And let the fun begin!
Cleaning and Care
Our play mats are made from the most innovative, durable, and supportive material possible, however there are a few things you can do to extend the life of your play mat so it can live up to its full potential.
Your play mat is waterproof and wipe-clean. Ensure that you clean up all spills as soon as possible to prevent staining or colour changes to your mat. Simply use a gentle cloth and some warm water with a mild detergent. Lay flat to dry before turning over.
Avoid using harsh chemicals, essential oils, or cleaning products to clean your mat. These may cause deterioration of the outer layer and discolouration. Warm water with a mild detergent will do the trick.
Avoid steam cleaning or vacuuming. Our mats are so lightweight simply picking them up and giving them a shake will remove any dust, crumbs, or dry mess.
Heavy furniture may cause permanent indentation to the memory foam and should be avoided for long periods of time.
Avoid keeping your mat in direct sunlight. Over time you may find that your mat becomes slightly discoloured if kept in direct sunlight (more so in the lightly coloured mats). This is due to the non-toxic nature of TPU. To maintain the colour of your mat, avoid long periods of exposure to direct sunlight.
You may notice the edges of your play mat are slightly discoloured on arrival due to the heat-sealing process. This is not a fault but a result of the high-quality non-toxic product that we use.
Keep your mat away from heaters and fireplaces to prevent heat damage.
Arts and crafts is one of the best parts of childhood! However, paints, permanent markers and crayons may cause irreversible staining to your mat- please use with care. Scissors, hot glue guns and alike should be used with supervision to avoid damage to your mat.
We adore our fur family and have allowed both our very big and small dogs to spend time on our play mats without any issues. However please be aware that pet claws (and teeth!) can cause permanent damage to your mat which will not be covered under warranty.
Our mats are designed for indoor use. If, however the sunshine is beckoning or the pool is calling our mats can be safely used outside — ideally on a smooth flat surface out of direct sunlight. Ensure you bring your mat inside again after use.
Material
Why TPU?
Product safety was at the top of our priorities when researching potential materials and products. On my personal hunt for a play mat, I was surprised to find the majority of play mats available contained PVC, BPA, and other chemicals I know I would not want to expose my own children to.
Our mats are made from TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) which we can proudly say contains none of these nasties and is certified non-toxic. On testing, our play mats surpassed international safety standards (EN71-3) and were found to be free of mercury, lead, phthalates, and are compliant with Australia and New Zealand (AS/NZS ISO 8124) Toy Standards. TPU offers a safe, sustainable, and durable alternative to PVC without the nasty smell or toxic content — it’s also waterproof, wipe-clean and antibacterial which makes Little Finch play mats different from all the others.
